Back Up Care Pays
Dividends
According to the Work & Family Newsbrief (December 2004 --
www.workfamily.com), Commerzbank,
a German bank, has evaluated its emergency back up child care program and found
that it saved them more than 700 days of absenteeism in a year.
The bank offers back-up care for children up to 12 years of age when their
regular care falls through.
In discussing the evaluation, VP Barbara David said, "We asked parents
what they would have done if we hadn't provided the service and one-third
said they wouldn't have come to work." That added up to 700 days --
the equivalent of $208,000 in wages. "And that doesn't take into account
benefits such as motivation, efficiency and corporate culture," added David.
