Evaluation of Early Childhood
Services
The Harvard Family Research Project, led by Heather Weiss, has published
a great resource on the history of evaluation of early childhood services. Contributing
authors offer a range of views on how best to communicate the importance of
investing in a child's early years and how to improve early childhood programs
and policies. Articles in The Evaluation Exchange (Summer 2004)
include:
* The Current State of Early Childhood Education by Lisa
Klein
* Evaluating Early Childhood Services: What's Really Behind the
Curtain by Jack Shonkoff
* North Carolina's Smart Start Initiative: A Decade of Evaluation
Lessons by Donna Bryant and Karen Ponder
* Closing the Achievement Gap: Head Start and Beyond by
Ed Zigler, Ron Haskins, and G. Reid Lyon
* Thoughts on Early Childhood Research: Improving Connections
by Marilou Hyson and Heather Biggar
* Learning a New Language: Effectively Communicating Early Childhood
Research to State Legislators
by Jack Tweedie
* Rethinking the Evaluation of Family Strengthening Strategies:
Beyond Traditional Program Evaluation Models by Charles Bruner
