Stacy Benge reminds us that the adventure into early literacy for children can facilitate moments of creative expression, experimentation, and wonder. Movement, repetition, physicality, and sound all contribute to rich learning experiences for young children. Stacy offers many practices to build on each component of early literacy through play. One practice to encourage playful learning focuses on phonological awareness through music. “During group times or transitions, emphasize rhyming sounds in songs with various movements. A wonderful example is 'Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star.' Stand while singing or chanting, and jump into a star formation (or star jump) every time the word 'star,' or a word that rhymes with 'star,' is heard.” |

Robert, the majority of our books, including our ROW series, are written by practitioners in current caregiving, teaching or directing roles. All of our authors have experience working directly with children, even as they've added other experiences and expertise. Authenticity matters! We are a small press and only work with a few book authors at a time, but we welcome inquiries from potential authors, both for the magazine and those with book manuscripts to consider for possible publication.

I am pleased to know of an interest in working with new authors. As a leader whose career in Early Childhood Education for over 50 years, is as a practitioner, I welcome opportunities to increase the voice and experiences of practitioners by having more authors of books and articles written by practitioners.
