As I read this post [about Brandy D. James’ essay in Stories of Resistance], I thought of the family daycare providers with whom I work. They are going to need to be evaluated in order to be part of a system that will pay them for taking in toddlers. The evaluations are clearly made for a White system. These women are immigrants and people of color. How does one go about finding an evaluative tool which is respectful of different cultural backgrounds? I would be so interested to learn of any.
Considering a reply, I realized the best response might come collectively from all of us – our Exchange Community: What evaluation methods, approaches or tools do you find are respectful of different cultural backgrounds? Or, what changes are needed in existing approaches to better reflect a diverse workforce caring for a diversity of children?
