Ashley Montagu (1905 – 1999) was an anthropologist who popularized the study of topics such as race, gender, culture and child care. One of his articles, "Friendship – Loving: What Early Childhood Education is All About" is included in the Art of Leadership book, Cultivating Curriculum in Early Childhood Organizations. Here’s an excerpt:
"Love is the supreme form of human connection. In the hierarchy of needs, love stands as the supreme developing agent of the humanity of the person. As such, the teaching of love should be the central core of all early childhood curriculum – with all other subjects growing naturally out of such teaching."

While I totally agree with this view, I bet you can't find love in any state early childhood standards, or NAEYC curriculum guides and plans. After all, love is not measurable!
We have moved so far away from our roots when it comes to what we should be doing. The central tenants of our field are love and human relationships; not curricular, standards, accountability, and assessment!

Love this concept. I'm wondering about resources for accomplishing this. I can think of several but the word "love" isn't included in the why's of using specific strategies such as the Pyramid. Are we afraid of talking specifically about love?
