Dear Exchange Community,
David Brooks, in a New York Times opinion piece, “Nine Nonobvious Ways to Have Deeper Conversations” (November 19, 2020), offers insightful ways to meet our need for meaningful connection in this time of difficult disconnection. Here’s a beautiful example:
“Approach with awe. C.S. Lewis once wrote that if you’d never met a human and suddenly encountered one, you’d be inclined to worship this creature. Every human being is a miracle, and you're superior in some way. The people who have great conversations walk into the room [or Zoom] expecting to be delighted by you and make you feel the beam of their affection and respect.”
Scott Bilstad, Exchange Creative Director, sent me the David Brooks writing in case I might want to share it with all of you. He did so not because his job is to find EED fodder, but because he is committed to supporting every courageous Early Childhood professional in our network - however he can. And Scott isn’t alone. Each person on our team goes above and beyond because they truly care. It is not hyperbole to say that in each Exchange team member, I find a miracle. When the COVID crisis hit us all last March, our team was hit hard, too, but their first questions weren’t about themselves, but about you: “How can we help?”
We hope we are helping. We want Exchange magazine to support, inform, and inspire. We try hard to create resources (new books, Ed.Flicks, Exchange Reflections...) that will lift you up. And I choose topics for these daily messages I hope will remind you how important you are (not just your work - but you).
During this challenging time, let’s keep looking for the miracles in each other,
Nancy Rosenow, Exchange Publisher
