An article on the Mental Health Partners website called “Self-Care for Childcarers During a Pandemic.” discusses ways adults who are working with children during this challenging time can support themselves. One of the suggestions centers around bringing more beauty into daily life:
“Change your scenery: With many of us restricted to our environments we need to be creative. Try going on a daily walk, take a different route to work, or (especially if in a child care center all day) put a daily picture up of something you find soothing to look at (e.g. print off a picture of a tropic island), bring in an art book and flip it to a new page each day.”
Ruth Wilson, in an article that forms the basis for an Out of the Box Training Kit, explains how beauty is an essential element for children. She describes beauty as "one of the most profound and essential forces in our lives," and asserts that surrounding children with beauty is crucial to their well-being. She quotes psychologist Abraham Maslow that beauty “promotes holistic human development."
