Deb Curtis, in her book, Really Seeing Children, provides so much inspiration for how our relationships with children can sustain us. Here’s how she writes about the “innate” spiritual dimensions children have:
"William Schafer suggests that children are born with three spiritual dimensions that we no longer experience as adults, and that many people try to reclaim through spiritual practices such as prayer and meditation. The three dimensions are:
Presence: Approaching life with pure awareness, free from internal judgment, comparison, fear or desire.
Joy: A strong sense of being drawn toward something or someone in wonder, curiosity and interest.
Awareness of others’ awareness: The realization that we are not alone, that others exist who are present to our experiences.”
And, Holly Elissa Bruno, in her new book, Happiness is Running Through the Streets to Find You: Translating Trauma’s Harsh Legacy into Healing, writes this about how she approaches challenges, and how she honors the work of early childhood professionals. She explains that when stress appears:
