"All of us talk about family involvement, family engagement, and what does that mean?" asks Luis Hernandez in the newest Turn-Key DVD, Inspiring Practices for Partnering with Families.
"For the most part, it could be a very superficial engagement. 'Hey, we want you to come in and help us cut out hearts for Valentine's Day.' That's a level of involvement. We want parents to volunteer on a field trip. Fantastic. That’s great. We want parents to come in and, maybe play the guitar...That's great. If we want to go a little deeper from just superficial activities, what are some of the things that we can do? That engagement is probably the hardest, but it's probably the most meaningful for a child to see their parent, on, let's say, a regular basis. We really have to think about the (family's) interests and abilities in order for them to really be able to come in and contribute to the entire community."

If the children could see their parents on a 'regular basis', what would be the need for daycare? Working parents may not have the time to spend in the school/care center---time is a luxury after all.
