Two More Literacy Resources
June 5, 2002

"Behold the turtle. He makes progress only when he sticks his neck out." —James Bryant Conant

TWO MORE LITERACY RESOURCES

In response to the listing in the May 30, 2002 ExchangeEveryDay, we have received several additional recommendations:

Dr. Alice Sterling Honig recommended Beverly Ottosbo's Language Development in Early Childhood. Columbus Ohio: Merrill-Prentice Hall, 2002. Honig observes, "This clear, easy to read book gives a provider the whole gamut of experiences and interactions that will facilitate emergent literacy from early infancy onward and also gives lots of ideas to support early language learning."

Several other subscribers recommended the Talk, Reach, Read Resource Guide produced by the Child Care Action Campaign and funded by Citigroup. This is a colorful, idea-filled guide for parents and caregivers. It provides advice on promote reading by talking to children, reaching out to embrace children, and reading to them frequently. For more information about this resource and about the Child Care Action Campaign, go to www.childcareaction.org.
