The Swiss investment firm, Partners Group, has agreed to acquire Knowledge Universe's US early childhood education business. Knowledge Universe is the largest for-profit provider of early childhood education in the US and the parent company of KinderCare Learning Centers, as well as the brands Children's Creative Learning Centers and Champions. The transaction is expected to close later this year.
Founded in 1969 in Birmingham, Alabama, under the name of KinderCare, the company grew quickly, opening centers primarily in the Southeastern states. Today after decades of acquisition and growth, Knowledge Universe operates approximately 1,400 centers in 38 states serving nearly 170,000 children. The organization currently is accredited by NAEYC, NAC, and NECPA, with a goal of 100% participation.
In a letter to parents, Knowledge Universe CEO Tom Wyatt observed: "We are excited to have found another committed and dedicated partner to support our mission of bringing exceptional educational opportunities to every child. With the Partners Group's support, we will continue to offer the same high-quality education from great teachers to every child at our centers. Most importantly, our commitment to you, your child, and your family will remain our first priority. "
