"The top 25 hedge fund managers make more than all kindergarten teachers in the country," stated President Obama in a speech on poverty at Georgetown University on May 12. The Washington Post decided to fact check this and here is what they found:
"...An annual ranking of top hedge fund managers found that the 25 most successful pulled in $11.62 billion in 2014 [in what analysts point out was the worst year for them since the stock market meltdown in 2008.]
"[According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics] in 2012 the nation had about 158,000 kindergarten teachers.... The average salary was $53,480 [which works out to a total of $8.45 billion.]

Sadly I don't think we will ever put caring for children on the same pedestal that we place sports/music/Hollywood celebrities. It is sad that as a society we just don't value raising children. Perhaps someday, we will once again value the idea of the stay-at-home parent.

It has been reported that Pearson is set to make billions in the next three years. A charter school operator in NY made over $500,000 last year. What do his teachers make? These are just two examples.

I am a kindergarten teacher and I am not so concerned about what I make. I am concerned about the for-profit corporate takeover of public schools. It is a scam.
