Spirit of Adult Play
May 13, 2015
No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow.
-Alice Walker

"It is often said that play is the work of children.  What then is the play of adults?" asks Bonnie Neugebauer in her article, "The Spirit of Adult Play," that is included in the Exchange Essential article collection, Play Into Practice...

"For a fortunate few, work is play. But for far greater numbers of adults work is work; and there is not enough time for real, natural play. Or we are not sure enough of ourselves to take risks and to be spontaneous. What would happen if we approached everything in our lives with a more playful spirit? How would this playful spirit change our workday, our parenting, our lovemaking? With effort, the play of adults can be life."

A very good and interesting concern indeed! But making a workplace joyful and accepting or turning the works into play for adults depends on many issues e.g. organizational culture, perception, belief, attitude, approach etc. of the boss and other colleagues. One can enjoy her/his individuals works as solitary play for the time-being till interrupted by others. I mean, to do this everyone will have to be in a same boat in thinking and in practice; it cannot be done in isolation.
