Action has meaning only in relationship… The understanding of relationship is infinitely more important than the search for any plan of action.

Children living in Norway have access to 240 times more daily income than do children in Ethiopia. This huge disparity in resources available to the children of the world was highlighted in the September 2010 Exchange Magazine article, “Well-Being of Children of the World – How are Children Doing Today?” The article spotlights the daily Gross National Income per person (in $US) in the following countries:
Norway | = $239 | USA | = $134 | Canada | = $114 | Australia | = $111 | Italy | = $97 | Poland | = $33 | Turkey | = $26 | Russia | = $26 | Brazil | = $20 |
| | South Africa | = $16 | Algeria | = $12 | Iran | = $10 | China | = $8 | Philippines | = $5 | Bolivia | = $4 | Nigeria | = $3 | Bangladesh | = $1 | Ethiopia | = $1 |

Income disparity seems a limited way to compare the well-being of children to me. Of course we should look at that, but without looking at other factors it seems to me that this could be misleading. There are so many other factors that affect the well-being of children - maternal health, education, access to health care, health of families, environmental issues, stability of government, geography, etc. Admittedly, I haven't read the whole article. However, seeing $10 for Iran does not jive with what I know about the quality of life in Iran for most children. Iran has excellent education and health care for most of its children.
