Here are some tips for improving your effectiveness as a presenter as shared by Joan Detz in Work & Family Life (September 2004):
Don’t hide behind a lectern. Try speaking without it. If you can’t break the lectern habit, step to the side of the lectern for question and answer sessions.
Smile. It’s hard to go wrong if you offer your listeners a warm smile.
Change the pitch of your voice on the most important words. This directs attention to your key points.
Talk too fast? Use shorter phrases and pause more often. This will let listeners keep up with your message.
