The US is twenty-fifth in education because the first thing they do to cut the budget is to cut our schools. They cut subjects, PE, ARTS, teachers, etc, but do not cut at the school board level. We have way too many students for the teacher to handle and be able to teach each of our students equally. The early grades, primary and elementary, mostly test...no real education. They think those kids need to learn to test first, before they are educated. They hire teachers that do not rank high in their graduating class. They pay our teachers way to much for the education they have. Our students, now a days, do not go to school during the day as long as we did when I was in school. When I was in school, the teachers had in-service days after school versus our kids, now, do not go to school when the teachers have in-service days.

I know we like to think the USA is so wonderful, but we are not. We don't value people, we value wealth. Hence, our people are not doing well. When you study the early care and education systems in many of the other countries on this list, they are pure play-based. No focus on academics before age 6 or 7. We keep thinking earlier is better and we keep getting hit with that fallacy square in the face. We need to wake up!

I am very surprised to read that our (Canada's) education in the third best in the world. That scares me. I see physical education and art programs cut down or cancelled alltogether. I see schools feeding the children with deep fried lunches everyday. University fees are going up but the education our students are recieving is not getting any better. And our federal government laughs at Early Childhood Education. So if this gets you #3 is best educated in the world - that's frightening!

It is my hope that all, who respond, will take the time to review the info on the Newsweek site.... the metrics and methodologiy section plus the infographic portion.... rather than jump to conclusions.There is food for thought here ... and reason to take action,when and where we can.
