Love's not a potato. You can't throw it out the window.
-Russian Proverb
Followers of the non profit world had predicted a significant drop in charitable giving in 2009.  However, The NonProfit Times (July 1, 2010) reports that contributions to charity in the United States dropped only a little more than 3 percent last year.

The $304 billion in donations in 2009 came from these sources:
Individuals -- 75%
Foundations -- 13%
Bequests -- 8%
Corporations -- 4%

These donations were directed to the following sectors:
Religion -- 33%
Education -- 13%
Human services -- 9%
Public-society benefit -- 8%
Health -- 7%
Art and culture -- 4%
International affairs -- 3%
Environmental affairs -- 2%
Unallocated/Other -- 21%
