Non Profits Guardedly Optimistic
July 6, 2010
The ultimate test for a leader is not whether he or she makes smart decisions and takes decisive action, but whether he or she teaches others to make smart decisions and take decisive action.
-Noel M. Tichy

The issue of Exchange just hitting the streets contains the latest "Status Report on Non Profit Care".  In this issue 1 in 4 of the executive directors of the 25 largest non profit early childhood organizations in North America report that they are expecting decreased enrollments in 2010.  On the other, hand 3 out of 4 expect to remain stable or even grow over the balance of the year.  Given the state of the economy, this appears pretty bullish.

Nonetheless, these 25 executives rated "the state of the economy" as the largest threat facing their organizations in 2010.  Other threats noted, in order of seriousness, were...

  • Rising costs of health insurance
  • Children with challenging behavior
  • Decreases in public subsidies
  • Lack of affordable space for expansion
  • Lack of subsidies for middle class parents

The trend report also included "The Exchange Top 25 -- North America's Largest Non Profit Child Care Organizations".  This was the first time the list had been compiled in over 15 years, and clearly is a work in progress.  Many organizations that should be on the list were not located in a timely manner.  If you believe your non profit organization should be included on this list as it is updated on the Exchange website, let us know at [email protected].

Exchange has packaged six of its practical management resources into a single “Manager’s Tool Kit” and is offering the entire set at a 33% discount — separately these resources would cost $175, but we are offering the entire for only $112.  Resources in the kit include:

Thank you so much for the enjoyable format and the extremely useful information. I am the Marketing Director for a very large non-profit child care organization in Wisconsin and I often pass on info from the Exchange to our Board of Directors.

Could you please send me a listing of the 25 largest non-profit child care organizations?

Thanks so much.
