Perspectives on Distance Learning
May 18, 2009
I write to discover what I know.
-Flannery O’Connor
One of the "conversations" that occurred at the World Forum Foundation's 2008 Working Forum for Teacher Educators in Auckland, New Zealand, focused on the role of technology in delivering teacher education. In their Exchange article about this conversation (which is can be viewed in its entirety on our home page), "The Role of Technology in EC Teacher Education: Global Perspectives," Selena Fox and Chip Donohue shared some of the perspectives instructors need to consider when launching a distance education program.
  • Being aware of the difference of an online content provision for learners compared to more traditional face-to-face facilitation
  • The importance of creating engaging online courses to support learning for students
  • Acknowledgment that early childhood programs need a balanced field practice/practicum component to compliment the content learning online
  • Commitment to the highest quality content, course materials, and resources for our early childhood learners

Conversations on Early Childhood Teacher Education: Voices from the Working Forum for Teacher Educators captures, shares, and sparks the continuation of conversations initiated at the inaugural Working Forum for Teacher Educators. Vibrant, challenging, and inspiring conversations were captured in this book with the intent of continuing professional dialogues and of adding voices to the growing global commitment to early childhood teacher education. Chapters focus on...

  • Policy, programs, and practices
  • Multiculturalism
  • Teacher education curriculum
  • Adults as learners
  • Learning online
  • Future directions
