To live is like to love — all reason is against it, and all healthy instinct for it.

A number of new initiatives are being launched at the
World Forum on Early Care and Education in Belfast, Northern Ireland (June 16 - 19, 2009). Organizers of these initiatives are seeking input from people interested in the topics being explored. If you would like more information on any of these initiatives, tell us which one in an email to
[email protected].
Global Perspectives on Children's Play Diane Levin from Wheelock College and Larry Schweinhart from the HighScope Foundation are organizing a track on children's play for the World Forum that will focus on: what play is; its role in children’s development; how our homes, schools, and other settings support it and fail to support it; how modern life affects it; and what we can do to protect it. They hope to organize the sessions on topics related to the specific interests and experiences in the responses we receive as well as to hold a meeting prior to the World Forum to discuss future directions for the play movement.
Immigration and Young Children Luis Hernandez, a long time World Forum planner, is organizing a session and follow-up meetings at the World Forum on the impact of immigration and migration on children and families. He is now inviting interested persons to share stories, reports, articles, and policy studies on this topic. Based on responses received as well as on the results of the meeting at the World Forum, the World Forum Foundation will consider recognizing immigration as an official Working Group deserving special attention, support and further study.
Charismatic Organizations Early care and education programs everywhere are typically operating with insufficient resources. The recent global economic downturn has brought additional stresses on programs. Yet organizations that are "charismatic" manage to survive and thrive even in times like this. Is yours one of those organizations that delights parents, attracts donors, and energizes staff? What are your strategies to draw in the people you need? Yasmina Vinci and Margaret Copeland are organizing a sharing session at the World Forum for leaders of charismatic organizations.
