Los Angeles County conducted an extensive investigation into the impact early care and education services have on the county's economy. The report of this investigation, The Economic Impact of Early Care and Education Industry in Los Angeles County, concluded...
"The early care and education industry is vital to Los Angeles County's economy. It currently:
- Generates $1.9 billion annually and provides over 65,000 full-time equivalent jobs
- Is projected to generate the sixth largest number of new jobs between 2006 and 2016 of all industries in Los Angeles County
- Benefits all industries in the county by enabling parents to work and attend higher education programs or job training programs to upgrade their skills
- Lays the groundwork for Los Angeles County's future economic success by preparing the next generation for effective participation in the economy and attracting businesses to Los Angeles County."

It's wonderful that providing high-quality care for working parents is helping the economy in Los Angeles. Let's do all we can to make sure the very people who are investing their lifes to the care of these children are not themselves slipping to the bottom of the economic ladder because of pitifully low salaries.
