- Use their imagination, improvise, think flexibly, and explore new options.
- Make appropriate choices from among many possibilities.
- Solve problems, both with materials with people.
- Cooperate with other children in the creation of mutually satisfying projects.
- Work through their feelings in creative, non-destructive ways.
- Become more aware of their own real interests, without being distracted with other possibilities �" to say "yes" and to say "no."
- Use something, such as a dramatic action, a word, a toy, a set of blocks, or a collection of marks on paper, to represent something else �" this sort of representation being essential to the process of learning to read.

I really agree with this article on the importance of play for young children. Some may think that play time is a waste of time, they should be doing something academic. Children can learn and develop so many important skills from playing as this article brought out. We should never deny or be to rigid with children regarding play time.

I agree that play is very important. I have noticed that the shy quiet children in our class room, open up when they are in free play indoors and outdoors. They open up more outdoors. This is the time when I am able to documents some of their strenghts and skills, without them knowing I am testing them.

I strongly believe the seventh point made in the article quoted by Elizabeth Jones is extrememly vital to importance of early care and education. The quote discusses the importance of play in relationship to reading development. This information needs to be mapped out not only for parents but for our early care and education field. Jones delcares that dramatic play is "essential" to the "process of learning to read." I agree so let's focus on providing explicit information in this area. Whereby "play" is understood as a pedagogical productive tool in early learning. understood
