CEUs for Reading Exchange

Exchange " the early childhood leader's magazine has signed an agreement with the University of Wisconsin-Stout that enables early childhood professionals to receive continuing education units (CEUs) for reading Exchange articles. The process is quite simple: Go to the continuing education section of our web site where you will find Exchange CEUs that you can purchase online. Read the Exchange articles and then take a short online test. When you pass the test, the University of Wisconsin-Stout will mail you a certificate for one CEU, the equivalent of 10 training hours. Article sets are available on curriculum issues such as math, literacy, brain research, parents, and special needs, as well as management issues such as leadership, supervision, training, and evaluation.

This would be a helpful method of acquiring training hours for those of us who have already earned undergraduate and graduate degrees, but will the CEU's be accepted by NAEYC ?

I think it's great idea to offer continuing education credits in this way. For some learning styles, this is the best possible vehicle for learning new concepts and skills, and it could be a real life saver for people who can't make it to trainings at the times that they are typically offered. I am impressed with the variety of offerings. It would be nice if there could be scholarships and/or payment options so that low income providers can take advantage of this opportunity for professional development. Are the credits transferable, and/or can they be applied to a degree program from the University?

I don't think I agree with individuals receiving 1 CEU (= to 10 hours of training) for reading articles. There is really no accountability, except for the on-line test, which anyone could take. Has this been approved by the CDA Council?

What a wonderful idea! It gives those whose needs demand certification an added boost for that accomplishment. Thank you, again, for meeting the needs with an innovative idea.

Thank you for this opportunity. Will these CEU points be accepted in every state?
