One of the most renowned early childhood training institutions in the nation, Pacific Oaks, is apparently in jeopardy of closing. The board of Pacific Oaks has asked President Carolyn Denham to develop contingency plans in reaction to an apparent financial crisis, including a "Contingency Plan for a Teach-out of the College is to be presented to Board committees in time for presentation to the Board at its fall 2007 meeting." The teach-out would lead to the closing of the school.
Pacific Oaks faculty and graduates are launching an effort to "Save Our School." For details on the crisis at Pacific Oaks and the effort to save the school, go to: www.pacificoakssos.com

The friends of po site www.pacificoakssos.com was apparently having technical difficulties. It is now open. There are many documents there that provide a great deal of documentation refuting a financial crisis. I hope you re-visit the site to learn what you can do to support Pacific Oaks.

I was able to open the link. There is apparently trouble between the college participants, the school president and the board of trustees. Communication appears to be inaccurate. The information was distributed by a group called Friends of Pacific Oaks. They are not officially affiliated with the school.
Louise Derman-Sparks has written in response to the communication and lack of progressive education recently.
It would be unfortunate if the college closed some of its programs, however financial realities force some issues. I think a bigger problem is the lack of communication, accuracy of reporting, and trust between lay leaders and professionals.

Thank you so much for making me and the others in the field aware of what is happening.

I -- also -- was unable to open the link to read any additional information about Pacific Oaks and the crisis that they are experiencing.
I went to the Pacific Oaks website and found nothing.
Please let us know how to get more info and how to support the school in staying open!!

I was unable to open the link to read any additional information about Pacific Oaks and the crisis that they are experiencing. Even when I did a websearch for the site, it stated, "Service Unavailable".
I wanted to share this with someone just in case others were trying to reach their website.
Thank you.
