The central theme of the 2007 World Forum was children's rights. Upon return from the World Forum, Neville Dwyer from Australia let us know about UNICEF's Child Friendly Cities initiative. The web site for this initiative makes the following declaration:
A Child Friendly City is actively engaged in fulfilling the right of every young citizen to:
- Influence decisions about their city
- Express their opinions on the city they want
- Participate in family, community, and social life
- Receive basic services such as health care and education
- Drink safe water and have access to proper sanitation
- Be protected from exploitation, violence, and abuse
- Walk safely in the streets on their own
- Meet friends and play
- Have green spaces for plants and animals
- Live in an unpolluted environment
- Participate in cultural and social events
- Be an equal citizen of their city with access to every service, regardless of ethnic origin, religion, income, gender, or disability.
The Child Friendly City web site (
http://www.childfriendlycities.org/) contains advocacy tools for individuals seeking to make their cities more child friendly.

My wife and I are owner of an 24 hrs childcare & learning center. We are not just a baby sitting business, but really trying to make a postive differents in the children lives and their parents. Most of our parents are single mothers and they are in school, working or both.We have two college student and retired teachers on our staff. We also deal with special needs children( our children ages new born to 14 yrs old and a after school program). There is a little aid from the states food program and we thank God for that. But it has being a hard task in getting grant monies for several needs we have. We are black Americans and most of our children are black and hispanic. There have being several that offered to write an grant for thousands up front and we can't afford that. Can anyone please help us in our efforts! Thanks Wiliie J. & Tonya Coleman. Please write or call us at PO Box 1158 Louisville.MS. 39339 or 662-779-1143
