Looking for Creative Outdoor Play Environments
May 23, 2007
Hope is like a road in the country: there was never a road, but when many people walk on it, the road comes into existence.
-Lin Yutang
Creative Outdoor Play Environments will be featured in the September/October 2007 issue of Exchange magazine. We are looking for great design ideas from your early childhood programs:
  • pathway, garden, sound, or texture features
  • elements that invites exploration, physical challenge
  • special place for social interaction
  • solution to a challenging problem
  • ideas for inclusion
...to name a few

Plan to be part of our gallery of great design ideas. Send a photograph and a brief description of a creative element of your outdoor environment to [email protected] by JUNE 21st, 2007.

To get an idea how these elements will be displayed in Exchange, check out the gallery PDF, "Art Projects Using Everyday Materials" from the May/June issue.

Check out the website Planetearthplayscapes.com and the work of Rusty Keeler. He designs natural playscapes for young children and his website has inspiring links!

I am very interested in this topic. We have a space behind our building that we want to turn into a environmentally enriching creative space for children to breathe in nature and make all kinds of new discoveries. We asked our children for input but we want to complete the design before school begins in the fall. Our intent is for the children to help us create it.

My question to you is if you find any great resources with pictures--if possible would you email us the source. My hope is we will have Phase one of our project--the design and layout completed by the time your article is printed.

It is a very important topic.
