Peace Comes to Nepal

"Dearest Friends! We are happily informing you that finally peace has come over Nepal! Last night at 21.29 hours is historic moment for us (21 November) all parties signed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which means a turnover from a ceasefire to a permanent state of peace. The whole of Nepal is in a state of excitement and energy for the betterment of the country. All the leaders including Maoist have shown their commitment to build 'NEW NEPAL.'
"In the time of the conflict the development of Nepal was narrowed. People in the remote areas most in need of help and opportunities, had been impossible to reach. Now all business and development workers can spread safely over the whole of Nepal. For our work it means that we can now work safely throughout country and thus work where the need is the highest. It means we can conduct our projects and programs with the utmost responsiveness and effectiveness! For future volunteers it will mean no more worries about safety, full concentration on the project, and of course enjoying and experiencing Nepal to the fullest!"

Praise God! One of my instructors from Cabrillo college, RossMarie Greiner would go to Nepal and bring supplies for the children. She died some years ago but her memory llives on. Is there a way that others can send such supplies to Nepal?

I believe that friends and faimly of mine, who are in Nepal now, would be the first to tell you that this is only the first step in many to a Better Nepal. A Nepal where every chidren, boys or girls, rich or poor, are treated as equals and educated as equals.

I am so encouraged that peace has come to Nepal...if only the rest of us could follow as well. I met Agatha and others from Nepal at the Forums in New Zealand, Ireland, and Nebraska, US and they are wonderful people doing such important work. I think "our" next Working Forum should be in Nepal and perhaps focus again on peace issues and programs that help children recover from strife caused by world politics!

Wonderful news. To read of peace in Nepal is a blessing. I recall listening to Agatha Thapa's lecture at the Crossing Boundaries conference at Reggio Emilia in 2003 as she told the dreadful story of struggle and hardship for teachers, girls and developing education in the midst of a war. For this hearbreak to change to rainbows must be cause for such hope.
