Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought.
-E. Y. Harburg (American Lyricist, Librettist, and Song Writer, 1896-1981)
Music offers a window onto other cultures and places. Take a virtual trip around the world with two unique web sites that offer an international music experience, for children and adults:
Mama Lisa adds an international flare to your curriculum with a huge collection of international children’s songs and nursery rhymes. Click on a continent, choose a country, then choose a rhyme or song. You’ll find lyrics, including English translations. Many include audio recordings you can listen to or download. Mama Lisa also invites you to submit lyrics and recordings of your own favorites to this growing collection.
Browse the unique collection at Calabash by continent, artist, musical styles, or 'playlists.' Listen to samples. Like other music sites, you can pay to download songs or keep a look out for the weekly featured free song. Bonus: Calabash Music is a "fair trade" business: Their artists receive 40 cents per dollar, four to six times the rate musicians receive from most commercial recording labels.

Thanks for asking me to respond to this EED. I think the Mama Lisa site is useful and simple to use. The other one, Calabash, seems to be yet another source of downloadable music. I think that ECE professionals would benefit more from Mama Lisa's website because she targets ECE professionals and parents of young children. The option to purchase is available, but isn't quite as prominent in self-promotion. Mama Lisa also suggests other opportunities for ECE professionals to develop a website for themselves and their families.
