The past several years has seen a flurry of activity in documenting the science of early child development and the implementation of evidence-based practice. Red River College in Winnipeg, Canada, has launched an exceptional online resource for teachers of young children focused entirely on the science of child development " www.scienceofecd.com.
The creators of this multimedia site started with three questions:
1. What is our contemporary understanding of child development?
2. Why is it important for teachers of young children to understand the science of their specialization?; and,
3. How can we bridge research and practice?
This resource presents 5 modules, each focused on specific areas of child development, including developmental health, brain development, genetics and experience, coping and competence, and communication and learning. The presentation of the material is engaging and supports a range of adult learning styles, including targeted readings, video and audio clips, case histories, and interactive games. The material is presented by leading Early Childhood Educators and developmental researchers.
