Over the past several years the number of resources, books, and other publications related to grants, grant writing, and fund seeking has mushroomed. Education World includes an excellent professional development article by Linda Starr entitled, "Show Me the Money: Tips and Resources for Successful Grant Writing." Starr provides a variety of information from the three "P"s of successful grant writing: a project, a plan, and permission. There is a section on the application process that includes forms, narrative, budget, and supporting documents. The section on follow up after the grant is awarded is also very useful and includes tips and advice after the grant begins. I was impressed with the additional grant writing resources and other grant related resources that were provided. A number of programs that I have worked with over the years included a staff development component that focused on finding funds for early childhood programs and even provided funds for staff to attend grant writing workshops and pushed the staff to consider grant writing to supplement and provide their children with educational experiences, materials, and resources that not only sparked the children, parents, and staff but provided a new focus for staff meetings and staff development in looking for funds to supplement the program goals and operations.
