Vishakha Deshpande, member of the World Forum family from Mumbai (formerly known in Western world as Bombay), shares this sad news about the torrential rains in her part of the world…

"Here in Mumbai there is havoc. We have, and are still experiencing and witnessing, a devastating natural calamity. Mumbai, and our full state of Maharashtra, is flooded due to torrential rains. The whole situation is miserable and out of human state. People have lost their homes, their dear ones, and the water which has risen above 10 to 15 feet, at places above 3 stories, is not subsiding due to continuous rain. Dams are full and the water has to be let out which has made the condition worse. There is no electricity and no water in the homes. Offices, schools, and colleges are closed. Even the children were held back in the schools as there was no way to reach them in school. Life has become miserable. Even though we are safe in our houses with our dear ones, we all are sobbing looking at the people who have lost everything. Public and social institutions are working hard to help the affected people as much as they can. The local and distant trains are not in service. I have to travel in quite a few places in central Maharashtra for parent orientation seminars at the end of this month. I hope everything is regularized 'til then. Until then, let's pray to God that he brings everything to a comfortable stage."
