This video is great (although it was frustrating how long it took to load). It is depressing though to see that it was made in 2012 and it feels like the crisis is getting worse not better. I have been working for worthy wages for a long time and a colleague and I were just saying today that we used to feel like Their was a chance that wages would increase but it no longer feels that way. I have a friend who says that it won't change until we actually do close!

Fantastic video. This could be so effective. I hope it gets out to the mainstream media in California.

I like that it was funny, but filled with very good points. What sticks out is that $10/hr is very little money for an ECE professional and yet that is an unaffordable expense for many families. Great video. I will definitely be sharing this with others in the child care field. Thank you for making it.

We have a thirty second version of this as well and it was used as a commercial in the movie theaters. You can search youtube to try and find it. Feel free to post and repost the video or use it to illustrate the need for child care to business leaders, government leaders or anyone else you think might listen. We made it in Humboldt County but it is applicable all over the world.

A great way to remind people of the importance of quality care.

Wow! This is excellent! Could social media help spread the word? Why isn't the Child Care Crisis on shows like 60 minutes, 20/20, or Dateline? I work as a Child Care inspector and have done so for nearly 20 years and it is heart breaking that our nation is so behind the times when it comes to education for our youngest members of society. I have also worked in prison ministry in juvenile detention centers and always, education is preached as a means to get young people back on track in be contributors to society. But it's all talk and no action. We almost have to have a nationwide shut down of Child Care Centers just to get the message across just like Martin Luther King and Cesar Chavez did to call attention to the inequality towards blacks and farm workers. Child Care Providers and Educators need to call attention to the Child Care Crisis--close down for a day or two or longer:There is a Child Care Crisis.

This video on "The ChildcareCrisis" makes an excellent case for all businesses and industry to contribute to a childcare fund and that contribution to be matched by government funding. Humor is good. Thanks for the video. maybe business leaders will listen to the "200 percent" increased productivity?

Very interesting...should be aired broadly throughout this country...as it is obviosuly not just applcable to Humbolt County.

Very well done but I would like to see it done at a faster pace so that we could get people who are not interested in the message to watch the whole thing.

It is hard to believe that in the United States children are not a priority.

This was a great video to share with students and community members.It makes a strong point about how the need for available (and quality) child care affects everyone.

I was disappointed about the absence of a Closed Caption feature which would make it accessible for the hearing impaired or deaf.

How I wish that every County could come up with something like this, no matter how hokey or long, that would wake up some more parents, businesspeople, and politicians. This particular pitch was a bit long and involved, but it got the message across thoroughly and well. Thank you and them.

Valid points! I have taught in EarlyChildhood Education for 28 years. I have always advocated for the benefits of quality in child care education. While there is much recent attention on our field, there has been less and less financial support for quality in early childhood education. Recession, lack of public awareness of its import, and the political slide to the bottom of the funding heap are killing our, the private sectors, ability to offer quality care to those who need us the most!

Brilliantly done. I especially liked the guy in the emergency room complaining that he shouldn't have to pay subsidies because he doesn't have kids and the response that it benefits society!

This was a VERY INFORMATIVE "sneak peek" at just the sort of consequences both parents and the public-at-large might come to experience in this day and age.
"IF THERE WAS NO CHILDCARE" available ( even for just a day ) can literally bring many businesses to a screeching halt! Not just the parents of children will be affected by this problem, but their own personal livelihood will be cut-off-at the knees!

I think it was awesome...wouldn't it be great if we could have a walk out day all across the country to prove our point and leave the message that our country will not function without the child care industry. Are you ready to make the movement happen? I am!

l love this video. It has a great message with a fun delivery. It is important for the communities to remember that childcare is important to everyone. Even if you do not have kids, your doctor, your banker or you staff might. If they can't be there to do their job, then you are effected too.
We also need to stress how beneficial quality care is in the development of young children. The centers need your help and support to give the children the best experience possible. It takes everyone in the state to to build quality communities.

These problems are as real here within the Caribbean as in the US. This kind of advocacy I is vital and of course takes many voices and long term commitment. The film was v very well done and I hope it gets wide use.

This is one of my favorite Exchange Everyday articles. I recently showed this video to a group of parents to open their eyes to what would happen if there was no day care. It sends a powerful message This video needs to be shown to Politician's who make the decisions about cuts being made to Childcare. I don't think they have a clue as to the effect this would have not only on families, but on society as a whole. Great video, well put together.

The film is a great strategy; it makes the case powerfully by using real scenarios. I hope this gets wide circulation and response.

Our organization produced a similar video with a state grant in 2000.

This is a silent crisis . . . still! Parents cannot afford to pay; teachers cannot afford to stay; but politicians lack the will to take action for a better way!

It is the children who suffer most from inadequate services, ill-trained and poorly compensated teachers. There is much talk about the QRS systems and increasing quality, but not nearly enough dialogue about how the teaching and administrative staff will receive a commensurate increase in pay and benefits.

This video needs to be shared with everyone across the country. If you recall, we tried this in the 80's in Seattle as part of the Worthy Work/Worthy Wages campaign. This type of awareness work takes so much consistent effort and with social/political currents going in the opposite direction, the advocacy becomes even harder.
