Ludoteca OMEP- Jornaleros Agricolas - Mexico
Program
Program Purpose
To provide an accommodating space to exercise the rights of special children especially play. To reinforce the cultural identity of children.
Program Description
OMEP-Morelos (World Organization of Preschool Education) as a consultative organization in the state, collaborates with Sedesol (secretary of social development) through the program for attention of agricultural laborers in the proposal of the installation of ludotecas for agricultural labor families. The general objective of the Sedesol program is to offer attention to those local country migrant workers in 6 fields inside which they find education, culture and recreation, and where OMEP will collaborate jointly with the program.
The ludotecas have proposed due to the lack of alternatives and opportunities, in order that children may play, be amused, recreate, have access to games and may enjoy experiences which they have the right to like any other child. The project is based on the diffusion and promotion of fulfillment of the rights of the children, trying to value and conserve their cultural identity.
The Ludoteca project will be a joint work between these two applications (OMEP-pronjag) from the organizational process, project planning, qualification, management, operation and evaluation and further.
International OMEP has had the experience of creating community ludotecas in other Latin American countries (Mexico counts as the ludoteca model in the community "“the orchards")
In order to understand the children of agricultural laborers the program has constructed areas for daycare including dining rooms, play areas and infant education (caei) from 7am to 9 pm. There the children are fed, educated and partake in recreational and playful activities while their parents and older siblings work in the fields. Los caei are places where children are able to express their feelings while interacting with other children. They develop their abilities and intelligence through diverse actions and above all feel dear and accepted, they adopt this as their own place, even being far from their native place.
The Ludoteca project tries to care for its own image of its culture, with design similar to its origin, showing a respectful way another class of games and toys. Allowing this population to open new horizons to channel free time to provide new elements and to continue awakening the wonder of children through the experimentation and access to new things. It’s important to mention that Ludoteca will attend particularly to migrant kids originating from the more poor regions of the country and that on the whole are bilingual and monolingual. La Ludoteca is a central investigation where, by means of continued evaluation, one is going to see the effect of the project in each child, and their families. Its proposal that the weekend ludoteca may offer a place for families (parents and children) with the objective of promoting family interaction and integration.
Convinced that the right to play and be happy is fundamental in the integral development of children, and of to be human. OMEP- Morelos, with the backing of the National Mexican Committee of OMEP, propose the opening of ludotecas for children of agricultural workers in any part of the world.
