The Aftermath of the
Indonesian Quake
As the death toll rapidly approaches 100,000 from the tsunamis caused by the
9.0 earthquake off the coast of Indonesia, Exchange expresses
its deepest sympathy for the countless families impacted through the loss of
family members, relatives, friends, homes and livelihoods. While the media attention
on this disaster will last a few days, the impact on these families will last
for decades
We urge early childhood professionals to reach out to help in any way they can.
There are numberous aid agencies that are raising funds to help families in
need. For example, Save the Children is creating the Asia
Earthquake/Tidal Wave Relief Fund to assist children and families impacted
by the earthquake and the resulting tidal waves. For more information about
this fund, go to http://www.savethechildren.org
We would also appreciate any feedback from readers in the region who can share
ways that early chlidhood professionals can be of assistance to their peers
impacted by this event. Send any comments to [email protected].
