"People whose integrity
has not been damaged in childhood, who were protected, respected, and treated
with honesty by their parents, will be--both in their youth and in adulthood--intelligent,
responsive, empathic, and highly sensitive. They will take pleasure in life
and will not feel any need to kill or even hurt others or themselves. They will
use their power to defend themselves, not to attack others. They will not be
able to do otherwise than respect and protect those weaker than themselves,
including their children, because this is what they have learned form their
own experience." Alice Miller in For Your Own Good
Global Leaders Selected
The World Forum Foundation is proud to announce those selected
to participate in the first cohort of its new advocacy project. Global
Leaders for Young Children is a quality improvement initiative to stimulate
advocacy efforts around the world. Global Leaders will be making
a commitment to serve as change agents in their own communities to improve the
quality of services for young children. This initiative was created by Joan
Lombardi, Director of The Children's Project, in collaboration
with the World Forum Foundation, and sponsored by the IBM Global Work/Life
Fund.
In return for their commitment to participate, Global Leaders
will receive support to attend two meetings of the World Forum
(Working Forum Belfast in November 2004 and the World Forum
in Montreal in May 2005). During these meetings they will receive mentoring
from Abby Shapiro from WFD and Joan Lombardi. In addition they will have access
to an ongoing network of support for their advocacy efforts in their home countries
and the opportunity to apply for small advocacy project grants.
