"Our only security

REVERSE MAINSTREAMING
In her newsletter, Who Cares? Recent Developments in Caregiving,
Beverly Smith points out a new social trend, "reverse mainstreaming."
This results from the special funding and lower class sizes that are dictated
by law for high needs children. In at least one New Jersey township, parents
of children without high needs enroll their children in the preschool classes
for disabled 3- and 4-year-olds to get the increased emphasis on reading and
math, the high qualifications of the teachers, the lower adult-child ratios,
and the individualized attention.
