We can't rely on young children to tell us when they are stressed. Instead, we need to watch for how children may show they are experiencing stress when they exhibit challenging behaviors to express their feelings.
Neal Horen, Director of the Early Childhood Division at Georgetown University Center for Child and Human Development says, "Part of what you are looking for is a child who seems to have difficulty regulating themselves, meaning managing their emotions, and who becomes overwhelmed much easier than you would think, based on where they are developmentally."
