As has been my practice for the past seven years, I am recommending books I enjoyed reading this past summer:
A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. A Swedish elder attempts to commit suicide. Hilarious and heartwarming.
The Sisters Brothers by Patrick deWitt. An offbeat account of two hired guns in the wild wild West.
The Black Count by Tom Reiss. Fascinating historical fiction about the Count of Monte Cristo.
Girl Waits with Gun by Amy Stewart. A mystery based on the first female detective in U.S.
A People's History of Sports in the United States by Dave Zirin. This is a history not only of sports, but also of social movements impacting sports.
Between the Assassinations by Aravind Adiga. A series of sketches of intriguing characters set in India.
