In her article, "More than Child's Play" in The Simple Things magazine (August 2014; www.thesimplethings.com), Martha Roberts observes that "There's a world of serious benefits adults can get from releasing their playful side....Being playful is like a tonic that aids our health and wellbeing and can even help us be more successful." Here are a few of the playful tactics she recommends...
Walk a playful path each day. Don't entirely change what you are doing - just see things differently.
Take 'serious' games and make them more playful. Try nonsense Scrabble where you aim to put down the silliest, funniest words.
Connect frequently with playful people.
Go on a comedy binge. Reacquaint yourself with your playful side by reading funny books, joke books, and watching comedy on TV...Train yourself to see what is funny in everyday situations, too.
