"Can you summarize your company's strategy in 35 words or less? If so, would your colleagues put it the same way?" These questions lead off David Collis' Harvard Business Review article, "Can You Say What Your Strategy Is?" Collis describes these components of a successful strategy statement:
"A strategic objective allows the company to identify what will drive the business over the next five years...."
"Advantage is the most critical aspect of a strategy statement. It helps clarify what makes the company unique, and also helps employees understand how they can successfully contribute."
Collis concludes, "With a clear definition of your strategy, formulation and implementation become infinitely easier — the statement will be easier to communicate, and will empower your people to raise the performance of your organization."
