Mom as CEO

"Schools are being forced to focus on what's tested versus what's important, and the civic soul of public education is being further eroded.  To remedy this, education must include a very serious civic component . . . one that promotes adhering to a set of civic-minded values and acting upon those values . . . one that doesn't just teach 'civics,' but strives to develop engaged citizens." - Terry Pickeral, executive director, National Center for Learning and Citizenship

MOM AS CEO

In a recent survey reported in the July 2003 issue of  Work & Family Life ([email protected]), a large majority of working American adults expressed the opinion that their own mothers could perform as well as or better than their bosses in certain areas of leadership . . .

Of 632 employees polled by Management Recruiters International of Cleveland,

*   67% said their mothers would do a better job at resolving employee disputes;

*  Nearly 75% said their moms would communicate with their employees at least as well as their bosses do;

*  70% said their mothers would help provide the same balance, or better balance, between work and home life for employees;

* 62% said their mothers would handle company finances better than or as well as their current bosses; and,

*  80% rated their mothers' ethics as stronger than or about the same as those of their companies' chief executives.
