"I want the children's eyes to seek out what is beautiful. I want the children to use their hands to please their eyes. I want art to be part of their every day. The most important thing to remember about art projects in early childhood is that children should have opportunities every day to create artistically pleasing projects."

These are the views of Carol Hillman as expressed in her Exchange book, Teaching Four-Year-Olds: A Personal Journey. She follows this statement with important questions to ask, such as:

Are you selective about the materials you provide children for their art projects? Are they pleasing to you? Are they safe to use?
Do you plan art projects far enough ahead so that you have the necessary materials on hand?
Do you take the time to sit beside children to watch them work and listen to what they say about their projects?
