"Problem solving is central to a manager's sense of self, and feelings of inadequacy can surface when a solution is elusive. In such situations, some managers try to come up with answers on the spot....
"I have learned to be suspicious of managers who seem to have all the answers. A far better indication of managerial skill is a willingness to admit, 'I'm not sure what the answer is. Let's have the team toss some ideas about.'"
