Mobile phone apps are making donating easy, reports The NonProfit Times (April, 15, 2010)...
"Nonprofits are upping their tech game by creating smart phone apps, which can enable donors and constituents to give or volunteer in quick and simple ways.... More importantly, charity apps bring something different to the table; they combine education and fun."
For example, through the use of a simple iPhone app, CauseWorld, in partnership with DonorsChoose.org, allows consumers to earn "karmas" for each restaurant, clothing store, and supermarket they check-in on their mobile phone. Cell phone users can accumulate up to ten karmas, which they can give to charity. Kraft and Citibank donate at a rate fixed for each cause. Donors also have the opportunity to learn more about each cause before donating to it.
