Student Reactions to Online Learning

Nearly 200 students and teachers have responded to the Exchange survey on online learning. A quick review of these first responses reveals that three out of four students who have experienced online learning prefer it to traditional classroom learning. They cited these "positives" about their online experience:
- Flexibility — can keep my job; can work on my own schedule
- Can learn from anywhere — no driving, no parking
- Rich interactions — with professor and with students from all over
They cited these "negatives" with their online experience:
- Group work hassles — teammates not doing their part in assignments and discussions
- Too much freedom — you need to have a high degree of self discipline to make this work
- Miss the face-to-face interactions with students and professor
- Too much chit chat in discussions
