The Global Leaders for Young Children project celebrated new milestones at the 2007 World Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A new class of 36 emerging leaders from 25 countries joined the movement to become more effective change agents on behalf of children and families of the world. Under the guidance of facilitators Joan Lombardi, Judith Evans, and Youssef Hajjar, the Global Leaders participated in presentations and discussions on the status of young children around the world, resources to make the case for early childhood investments, advocacy strategies, leadership, and quality issues.
The IBM Global Work/Life Fund has been the prime sponsor of this project since its inception. Through this fund, IBM has committed more than $263 million to dependent care programs and services around the world, and is frequently recognized for its commitment to helping employees manage issues of work and life. In Phases II and III of the Global Leaders project, Community Playthings and Children’s Creative Learning Centers come on board as project sponsors as well. In addition, in the current Phase III, the following international NGOs have partnered with the World Forum in supporting Global Leaders: Arab Resource Collective, Bernard van Leer Foundation, Christian Children’s Fund, International Child Resource Institute, International Step by Step Institute, NAECCEM, Pacific Preschool Council, Plan International, and Save the Children USA.
