CanChild… Every Child Can

I Think I Can... I Think I Can... I Think I Can.
The Little Engine that Could

I encourage everyone to visit CanChild the Centre for Childhood Disability Research at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada (www.canchild.ca). This newly launched web site has much to offer families, teachers, and providers in supporting inclusion for children with special needs.

The site offers a range of resources, including:

  1. Information about specific diagnosis, supports, and interventions
  2. Tips for the provision of family-centered service
  3. Suggestions to support advocacy initiatives; and
  4. Knowledge concerning developmental disorders over time.

There are many ways that CanChild can be used in adult education settings. The site is an evidence-based resource for students and will aid them in planning for children with special needs, in speaking with parents about unique learning needs, and in the provision of reliable information for newsletters and professional writing. In addition, future teachers of young children will benefit from how developmental disorders change over time and the ways in which classrooms need to change as well.

A fundamental goal of CanChild is to share the knowledge gleaned from research and support its implementation in practice. Educators of adult learners will want to add it to their list of favourites.
