William Strader notes that the Department of Health and Human Services, Administration for Children and Families has just disseminated a number of CD-ROMs entitled "Leading the Way to Quality Early Care and Education: A Child Care Bureau Technical Assistance Tool 2005 User Guide."
This CD-ROM provides an overview and navigational booklet to support the reader in clicking and watching segments related to professional development, supporting quality, literacy and early learning, financing and subsidy administration. It also includes perspectives on the topics from a number professionals in the field including state administrators, program specialists, and practitioners. A variety of state models including Oklahoma, Ohio, Florida, and Rhode Island provide examples related to the five main themes, for example: an approach to tiered quality, literacy training, readiness assessment systems, early learning guidelines, strategies to support the economic viability of child care.
Suggestions for ways to use the CD-ROM were given to "spark" this tool as a resource for: research, program development, networking, or training. The program does require QuickTime 6 so be aware of that. It's worth a look! The "More Depth" section of the CD-ROM was also useful as additional perspectives and views were presented in that part of the CD.
Contact Ellie Wagoner at [email protected] or Lori Connors-Tadros at [email protected] for further information on the CD and professional development approaches for the use of the CD.
