Male Involvement Makes a Difference

A study by the National Center for Education Statistics, reported in Work & Family Newsbrief (July 2005, www.workfamily.com) found that when fathers participate in three or more school events, their kids enjoy school more and have a lower dropout and expulsion rate. They also get better grades and participate in more extracurricular activities. Researchers found that dad’s involvement in school, whether its attending a conference or chaperoning a field trip, has a positive influence on their child’s performance, even if they don’t live with the child.
