Center Directors' Salary
Survey
Despite all the corporate scandals in recent years, it appears that the granting
of obcene salaries and bonuses for US executives skipped nary a beat. A
New York Times article (April 3, 2005), "My Big Fat C.E.O.
Paycheck," confirms that corporate executives typically earn annual compensation
packages in the range of $10 to $20 million. And, pay is not necessarily
tied to performance. For example, bankrupt United Airlines
recently asked employees to take pay cuts and told passengers to expect "streamlined"
services, yet awarded its chief executive a $366,000 bonus.
Meanwhile, in the early childhood world, our salaries are more modest. Exchange
is working with the McCormick Tribune Center for Early Childhood Leadership
at National-Louis University to conduct a national (USA) study
of early childhood directors' compensation and benefits. The survey is intended
for directors who spend 50% or more of their time in an administrative role.
The results of this study will provide data on the relationship between
directors' compensation and their education, program size, legal auspice, funding
streams, and geographic location. A summary of the results will appear
in Exchange and ExchangeEveryday, as well as in
the McCormick Tribune Center's Research Notes.
